Why cheaper cleaning isn’t always better

The true cost of a one-man band

In the current economic climate, businesses of all sizes and all industries in the East of England, from small marketing agencies to large manufacturers, are looking to save a bit of money in all areas.

When it comes to areas like facilities management, including commercial cleaning, you may see this as an ideal way to cut costs, as it doesn’t directly help you profit.

It can be very tempting to switch to a freelance contractor, or one-man-band, who has favourable hourly rates or a very low fixed daily rate, to save money.

The thing is, cleaning is one area that you absolutely shouldn’t save money on because it can cost you more in the long run.

Here’s why choosing a one-man band over a professional, regional contractor might not always be a good idea:

Compliance & certifications

Whilst you don’t legally need any certifications to run a freelance commercial cleaning business in the UK, you do need to keep on top of the latest compliance and regulations set by the government.

In addition, certifications can be incredibly expensive and with charging a low hourly rate, spending on these might not be financially viable.

At Monthind, compliance is at the heart of everything we do. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified. Our teams are rigorously trained not just in how to clean, but how to do it safely, protecting your staff, your visitors, and your reputation.

The time off effect

Everyone needs time off at points in the year, but what if your independent freelancer takes a two-week holiday or is off long-term sick?

One of two things will happen: either the cleaning at your workplace may drop in standards as your employees won’t want to put in the extra effort, or you’ll spend a lot of time and energy looking for another solution.

At Monthind, whilst you will have the same team of cleaners all of the time, wwe have a a mobile support team who are on hand to cover where required. Additionally we have a pool of relief cleaners who can be deployed to other sites to cover absenteeism.

Scalability

A smaller contractor can handle a small, singular office today, but what if you dramatically scale your business? Will they have the capacity to ensure multiple offices in multiple locations can get cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis?

At Monthind, you don’t need to worry about that. We have cleaning operatives who are strategically located to be deployed anywhere in the East of England, and therefore can handle multiple locations.

Value over price

When it comes down to it, the question is whether it’s worth going for a much cheaper cleaning solution Vs. one that can really provide value.

At Monthind, we are cleaning professionals who have been cleaning businesses in the East of England for more than 50 years.
