This year marks a monumental milestone for Monthind Clean – our 50th anniversary as a commercial cleaning contractor. While we proudly reflect on half a century of operational achievements, we are equally, if not more, proud of the significant impact we’ve been able to make beyond our commercial endeavours, pouring our efforts into causes that truly matter.
For nine consecutive years, we have dedicated our support to our cherished partnership with Havens Hospices. It’s children’s hospice, Little Havens, provides specialist nursing and supportive care to babies, children, and young people living with incurable and complex conditions. The charity’s invaluable work extends to their families, offering respite, comfort, and crucial support during unimaginably difficult times.
Our consistent dedication to Little Havens Hospice over the last nine years has culminated in a substantial contribution of over £20,000. The profound impact of these funds is best understood through the care they enable:
- 682 Hours of Care: Our donations could pay for 682 hours of essential care, providing comfort and support during a respite break, an emergency stay, or critical end-of-life care for a child or young person.
- 485 Hours of Counselling: Alternatively, these funds could provide 485 hours of vital counselling. This support helps young children cope with the diagnosis of their illness and navigate the significant emotional impact it has on them and their families.
- 916 Hours of In-Home Care: Our contributions could also cover 916 hours of care provided in the home of a child or young person. This crucial service offers personal and therapeutic care, giving parents and carers much-needed respite so they can relax, manage household chores, or simply spend quality time with their other children.
- 3 Days of Full Hospice Care: Amazingly, our donations could have paid for three full days of comprehensive care at Little Havens. This encompasses the cost of their dedicated nurses, carers, and support staff (such as cooks and housekeepers), as well as the operational expenses of the building, including utility bills, medical supplies, and personal care provisions.
Extraordinary Efforts in Our 50th Year
This year, as we celebrate our half-century, our team’s commitment to Little Havens has shone brighter than ever through some truly remarkable fundraising initiatives:
- The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge: On July 17th, a dedicated team from Monthind tackled the formidable Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, a 24-mile (38.6 km) circular route through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, involving climbing Pen-y-ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, with an ascent of over 5,000 feet (1,600 metres). Our team rose to the occasion with grit and determination, raising a fantastic £2,121.00 for Little Havens.
- Charity Golf Day: October saw a fantastic collaboration as Monthind and Alliance proudly co-hosted a highly successful Charity Golf Day. Dedicated to raising essential funds for both Little Havens and Starlight Children’s Foundation – UK, the event was a wonderful blend of camaraderie, enjoyment, and competitive spirit. Together, we managed to raise an astonishing £14,485.22, which was equally split between the two deserving charities.
- Thames Path Ultra Challenge: Following this, in September, our very own Director, Tony Felgate, undertook the gruelling 50km Thames Path Ultra Challenge. Tony’s personal commitment and immense effort were inspiring, and his remarkable feat raised an incredible £2,655.42 for Little Havens.
Steve Yeung, Corporate Fundraiser at Havens Hospices said:
“Monthind’s unwavering support over the past nine years has made a remarkable difference to the babies, children, young people and families who rely on Little Havens. Their continued generosity helps us provide specialist care and those precious moments of comfort that mean so much during the most challenging times. We are truly grateful for their commitment – we must raise over £79,000 every week to be there for families across Essex, and it’s thanks to local companies like Monthind that this vital care is possible.”
A Culture of Giving
Beyond these major events, our commitment to Little Havens, part of Havens Hospices, is woven into the fabric of our everyday culture at Monthind. We regularly organise smaller, yet equally meaningful, initiatives such as dress-down days, office collections, and bake sales, ensuring a continuous stream of support for this vital cause.
