Case Study: Specialist Cleaning for Essex Police Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)
While Monthind carry out a high volume of general cleaning work, we are also recognised as one of the region’s leading specialist cleaning firms. Few of our contracts are more specialised than the one we maintain with the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).
The unit was set up to create a centralised sympathy suite where all alleged victims of sexual assault would be taken to be seen by a doctor.
This eliminates the practice of doctors having to be brought to individual police stations – at a high cost. As a result, the cleaning needs of the unit are significant; Monthind deals with an average of 40 SARC call-outs per month.
As part of the contract, we are required to have cleaning staff available to the unit 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, and maintain an associated 24-hour call centre in order to dispatch teams as needed. In addition, calls must be attended to within 1 hour.
Full PPE must be worn on each cleaning call out and all equipment is assessed by the authorities before it is used. The specification of decontamination and cleaning must be followed precisely.

The specification of decontamination and cleaning must be followed precisely. All staff are DNA tested to rule out any cross-contamination, as any evidence found in the suite may be used in court.
The suites are cleaned every time they are used and a deep clean is carried out every six months. On completion of the clean, staff seal the suite and entry is not permitted until the next case comes in.
The premises undergo DNA testing on a regular basis to demonstrate the effectiveness of the cleaning regime.
In order to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the SARC unit, monthly meetings are held with all associated employees and management personnel.
Reports are sent to the courts regarding the cleans to eliminate any concerns about cross-contamination or the standard of cleaning.
